Children are so naturally energetic, exercising is one activity you can easily do together – in fact, you’ll probably run out of puff before they do.
With young kids at home, it’s not always easy to get out to the gym or to go for a spontaneous jog. But with some imagination, children can become aids rather than barriers to a fitness regime…
Five ways to keep fit with kids.
1. Why not take your child for a few laps round the block on their bike or scooter while you jog alongside? Time yourself each day and try to beat your record.
2. Try indoor ‘circuit training’ – great on rainy days. Crawl under a table, clamber over an armchair, limbo under a string tied between two chairs, bunny-hop over a line of cereal packets. The possibilities are endless!
3. How about an impromptu ‘sports day’ with a three-legged race, egg and spoon, tug of war, wheel barrow, sack race etc? Have oranges and apples cut in quarters for the refreshment break.
4. Spring cleaning (at any time of the year!) uses lots of different muscles and it’s fun when you involve the kids and turn it into a game. Put some music on and dust or scrub to the beat.
5. If you’re a yoga-lover, did you know there are lots of centres teaching yoga to kids? Once your children have had some lessons, you can practise together. Try Yoga Bugs for top tips and for classes across the UK.
